where are my winter clothes?!

I woke up this morning to the sound of rain and my parents leaving out early. My mom got called in to the retirement center because someone called in sick and my dad had some morning inventory job.

Great. More money for them, but I have to take the bus to work, and like I said, it's raining. I don't know where any of my winter clothes are and I have like 6 loads of dirty clothes, so I'm probably going to wear something inappropiate and probably get sick.

So when I get to the church today, I know exactly what I'm going to do. Work on ALL the church stuff first (bulletins, Love Notes and envelopes) and then spend a couple of hours working on my speech. I have the rough outline done and all I have to do is add subpoints. After that I need to do 3 powerpoint slides for the visual aid aspect and print them on overhead projector sheets (incase there's a computer problem). Then when I get home, I can work on practicing the speech and getting it to the 5 1/2 minute mark. The speech I gave before Thanksgiving was 3 1/2 minutes and I lost 1.5 points off my speech!

After I give the speech on Monday, I can concentrate on my research paper for History. I have to find 2 books and 2 articles on Rosa Park and/or the Montgomery Bus Boycotts. This assignment has to be 3-5 pages and I have to have footnotes and an annotated (did I just totally butcher that word?!) bibliography.

NEVER AGAIN AM I TAKING A 9 WEEK CLASS!

The plan is to either leave at 8:15 or 9:15 this morning and seeing as how it's already 7:53 and I'm still in my pjs, I don't think I'll be leaving at 8:15. I better get dressed to make it!

Poo!

I owe $15.00 to school. Umm I think I have until Friday to pay it. Sadly, that won't happen.

I need...$400 or Christmas doesn't come this year. Well it comes, but it comes pretty crappy. And crappy happens every Christmas, and I don't want crappy again. My parents/family will understand that I don't have the money to get gifts...hell I don't usually get them anything anyway. But I need to get my Secret Santa gift as well as my 5 gifts for Holiday Wishes but luckily for that, many of the people wanted something handmade and I got that covered. I just have to mail.

I need to find someplace to sell these scarves, hats and purses. E-Bay worked 1 time, LJ worked 1 time and that's about it. ha!

I'm going to try to leave at 9 whatever today. I need a few hours of better computer research and hopefully get some documents in a condition to where I can print them off...even though I have $0.30 left on my print account and I have $1 that I've been trying to save for a very silly reason.

Thank God today is my Friday!

I hate assignments that don't give a clear structure

I have 2 assignments I'm working on right now - 1 due on Monday (Dec 3) and the other due on Dec 13.

For both, I'm trying to pick the same topic so I don't have to do so much additional research because I don't have the time. So I decided that I'm going to talk about Rosa Parks.

For my speech class, I think I'm going to focus on the bus boy cotts and her role in that and for history, I have to come up with a thesis. Don't tell anyone, but for that I'm going to clean up the Rosa Parks assignment I did back in the 11th grade. It pays to save papers! I just don't know what my thesis is going to be because I have to prove or disprove my thesis in the history paper.

edit: actually, for speech I think I'm going to talk about segregation in schools...lean more towards Brown v The Board of Education. and history is going to be more about Rosa Parks and the bus boycotts.

Oh yeah, and I have 2 exams next week. Fun huh? I'm so glad the semester is coming to an end! 2 more weeks of actual classes and then finals the week after that...then CHRISTMAS and maybe seeing Coriano (will talk about him at a later date).

Until then, back to doing research.

how did this happen!?

How did I go from having an okay morning to being totally stressed out?!

First I swore up and down that my registration time was for today at 10 am but when I check the e-mail it was for 8 am!

Second, when I was planning my classes, I don't know how I over looked the fact that 2 of the classes I picked conflicted with each other. So now I'm only registered for Physical Geology Laboratory, Intermediate Algebra (I'm determined to pass Algebra! lol) and Contemporary Political Issues. Internation Relations conflicted with the Geology lab, so I can't take it. Something has to be offered during the summer, or I'll have to take the classes at the university (if I even get there!) or I'm stuck at the CC for another semester (Fall 08).

Third, I totally spaced on what I have to pay vs what gets paid for through fee waiver so I was only able to pay for my ASC fee (which I could care less about having) and my Spring 08 sticker saying that I'm a student for the term. The other thing that's left is my health fee. In looking at what I did for this past semester, it looks like I had to pay the health fee, in which case, that won't get paid until I get paid on Sunday/Monday...well past the 72 hr deadline.

Seriously, did I fall asleep and wake up on the wrong side of the bed?! I'm telling you, this is crazy! I don't know how or when all this bad luck befell me!

I need to put my shoes on and head out. the bus comes at 10:35.

This Saturday

1:30 pm at the LA Colisium

USC v UCLA

I want to be there!

I entered a contest for tickets, but I doubt I'm going to win

plus, I'd have no one to go with.

:-(

In other news...I'm tired of hearing about who's upset about The Golden Compass. It just annoys me. It's a work of fiction! Get over it!

Got a response from the man calling himself db. I need to e-mail Maria asking him who he is. But until I get around to doing that, here's his reply.

I appreciate your candid answers. I agree with your observation of the drowning situation. Drowning would be very frightening! A man nor a dog could survive for very long in a freezing pond or lake. Both would be unable to swim very far and would need help of some kind fairly quickly.
You didn't ask me how I guessed that you were a longtime college student. I knew I was right and would have been extremely surprised if I was incorrect! I won't go into that now but I will reserve the comments and reasoning for a later date.
I do find many professors and instructors to be boring parrots who pontificate regularly! `Too many have been in an educational facility from Kindergarten to the present. Most have not had time to experience real life. I also find that if you should ask a professor of language a question about, say, the Civil War the professor most likely tell you to see Professor So-and-so, he has the most knowledge on the Civil War. However, if you ask a professor about politics or religion they all seem to be experts in the field. (Been there, done that!) The problem with this is that they tend to start giving information based upon hearsay, rhetoric and opinion. Facts seem to be unimportant when talking on these subjects. College is particularly difficult when you find you are more intelligent than the professors and have the ability to think. I once confused an instructor when after he expanded upon the "big bang theory" of the beginning of the universe and how all these gasses came together and compressed to cause a huge explosion which gave us the beginning of our universe, I asked him to tell me where all these gasses came from. After noting that the question caused a stir in the classroom, he mumbled something I didn't hear then told me to use my imagination!!
Enough for now!
Thank you for the opportunity to have an open discussion with you. I do have questions that you may be able to answer for me. I shall ask one or two in a couple of days.
Thanking you again, I am
db

Raise your hand if you think I'm going to leave out of here at 10 am? *looks around* that's what I thought! No one. Even I don't think I will, but I have to. I need to type up and print out this self evaluation for speech. It's worth 20 points, and while that isn't a lot of points, I need to do well in at least one class, and if it's not going to be history, then it sure as heck better be speech!

And next Monday we have another major speech. 5-6 minutes in length about an event or concept that class might not know a lot about. I thought I'd speak on segregation. The class is pretty mixed, and barring anyone being a history major or went to a school where civil rights and segregation was talked about longer than a few days/weeks or solely during Black History Month (February), I think it would be good for people to know a bit more about it. Plus, I get to do a powerpoint presentation. I miss doing those!

It's almost 9 am. I need to grab a shower and be ready to leave out at 9:45 am edit: oh crap! I can't leave out at 9:45! I register for Spring classes today at 10! So I'll have to leave out at 10:15 (or whenever I finish registering). There goes getting to school 2 hrs early!

response to the e-mail from yesterday

I think I've finally come up with a response to that person's e-mail about The Golden Compass and the athesist on his death bed (which I don't see how the 2 go together).

My response to said e-mail is going to be this:
It it not my concern what anyone (athiest or believer) does on their death bed. All I said was that if one side of a story is presented, there is bound to be another side, in some manner, presented. It is not our place to tell others what is Truth, as that is different to everyone, but to listen to all that is presented and determine what is truth to us as an individual.

The end. should this person respond after that...well I'll deal with that later.

I need to get dressed for school. I have my history paper to type (Newman said it was due today, but on the class outline it has the 29th) and I want to give myself enough time to do it (as well as start on a couple of assignments for my speech class that are due tomorrow) and print it out and not be late to class.

I knew this was going to happen

Yesterday (or Saturday) I get this e-mail about how the new Nicole Kidman movie The Golden Comapss is in retaliation, I guess, to C.S. Lewis' Chronicle's of Narnia. I didn't know that the author of The Golden Compass book (and 2 others) were written by an anti-religious man (Phillip Pullman), and I didn't care. Though I did notice during the previews, one could pull some sort of religios meaning out of it.

So about this e-mail...this is what it says
Kevin forward this to me, I was surprised, but then the world doesn't view things the way we do.

There is a movie coming out on December 7th 2007 called "The Golden Compass." It ain't gonna be pretty.
Read all about it @ Snopes.com:

I don't understand how people get so up at arms about movies and books that are fiction. So what if they have some religious meanings or are based on some facts that the author(s) believe to be true. No one, as far as I know, is saying that The Golden Compass and The Chronicles of Narnia are Truth (and there is a difference between Truth and truth. I learned that in a science class).

So anyways, what did I know would happen? that I'd get some sort of reply to and e-mail I sent to Maria (who sent me the snopes e-mail).

My reply to Maria (and the other people she sent that e-mail to) was
If one side of a story is going to be told, it's only fair any other sides are told...no matter if you agree or disagree with what's being said. If you don't like it, you can choose not to see or read it.

Then I get a reply back from one of the people I e-mailed
Perhaps you're correct but how is it that when an athiest is on his or her deathbed (and know they are about to die [opposed to instant death by accident or whatever]) over 90% have the clergy show up at their bedside. Maybe they just want to be sure.

I'm sorry, I don't feel there is a perhaps about it. People have a choice to see and read what they want. How they get about that is up to them. I, however, choose not to let religious things effect whether I see a movie (that I think is well done, even if I'm not a Nicole Kidman fan).

I just don't know how to respond to this guy's e-mail. I'm going to think about it and respond later tonight.

I don't even know why I'm posting right now

Other than I'm bored and my popcorn isn't done popping.

Why am I eating popcorn this late? *shrugs* I'm bored and was going to do it earlier, but I as asleep from 3 pm to 8 pm and I'm just getting around to making up my mind to do it. haha I'm lazy.

Has the novelty of me being black and liking country music finally worn off? I don't know, but everytime it comes up in IM/myspace conversation with people, they aren't shocked. Last year, or whatever, when I would tell someone I listen to country music, I'd get this shocked look from them. I liked the my skin color and choice of music weren't the norm. It made me feel special.

At least the guys on the dating sites I venture to check are still shocked...but a lot of them are old pervs and I don't care what they think about me. I don't talk to them.

Popcorn is done. I'm going to go watch a movie and hopefully be asleep by 1 or 2 am.

Air New Zeland

I just sent my resume to Air New Zeland for one of their Rates Agent positions. A lot of the stuff they required the applicant know how to do I learned about through the ATC program so I took a stab and applied.

Mandatory
  • 1-2 years airline, reservations, GDS, travel agent or related experience required (I don't have the work experience, but I have the class experience)
  • Knowledge of airline transportation industry, familiarity with public and private fares (Gained from class work)
  • Understanding of airline business, both leisure and business (Gained from class work)
  • Keen understanding of international fare construction (Gained from class work)
  • Ability to read, interpret and use Air Tariffs (I wasn't too good in class, but with practice, I could get the hang of it again)
  • Knowledge of customer services practices and procedures (I aced my airline customer service and job skills communication classes...yet I can't seem to find a customer service related job...)
  • Commonly practised safety procedures and guidelines
  • Knowledge of computer mainframe systems and/or GDSs (Gained from class work)
  • Strong MicroSoft Office skills: excel, word, outlook, etc. (I like Microsoft over other operating systems)

  • Some ability to understand and interpret legal documents, contracts, rules and regulations Excellent written and oral communication (If using common sense is involved, I can handle that...I'm pretty good at communicating through writing and speaking)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (That's what the Human Communications I'm taking is supposed to help me improve...)
  • Ability to carry out written and oral instructions (I think I work best having assignments written out as opposed to told me to...at least if the assignment has many parts to it.)
  • Ability to train other staff on Pricing related issues (I helped the people sitting around me pass SABRE and Apollo, so I'm pretty sure I could "train" others)
    Working Conditions
  • Typical office environment
  • May involve extended periods of time standing and/or walking

I need to get my other Quick Reference Guide from Campus (I think I'll do that Monday or Tuesday) to brush up on some of the commands. Luckily I still have time on my Apollo training card from Spring 2006.

My mom went into work early today because the morning receptionist was sick. If I would have known that last night, I wouldn't have called Lora for a pick up to church. My dad's not home and today is another good day to be home alone. I can organize my room and watch TV in peace.

My dad has a Blue Chip Inventory job today, tomorrow, Tuesday and Thursday. They're all at 3 am or there abouts with the exception of Thursday and that's at 5 pm.

I've been downloading music from friends, most of it Christmas music, but I'm not in the mood just yet to listen to it. I want other kind of music to listen to. I wish I had a mp3 player then I wouldn't have to lug around my CD player and CD case. I miss having a mp3 player. I want the Sandisk Sansa m240 MP3 Player with Digital FM Tuner and Voice Recoder in Pink and if it's still available next week I'm going to buy it.

It's almost 9 am so I better get a quick shower and get dressed before Lora comes.

California's burning again

This time it's just in Malibu. Have we NOT got through enough fires the last 2 months?!

I'm not about to utter what I'm thinking's going to happen next and no one else better either! (*knocks on wood just in case*)

Early this morning (like 1 or 2 am) I felt like watching Twister so I put that in, watched about 55 minutes of it, then went to sleep. This morning I watched more of it, but I still have maybe 30 minutes left. Later today I'm going to watch True Lies and then the rest of season 2 of Charmed.

The temp is getting colder and I feel it down to my bones. I wish I still had winter clothes, but they were in the garage and got ruined a couple years ago when we had the massive storms. Now I don't have the money to rebuild the collection so I have to kind of layer my clothes to be warm. I'm so glad there's only a month left of school. That means only 1 more month of getting home at 7 or 8 at night.

Last week my dad said he was going to light the heater pilot. He still hasn't. Everytime he makes a comment about me having the oven on for warmth, I tell him to light the heater, then he tells me to put clothes on and I say I have clothes on. Next time he tells me that, I'm going to tell him that I would but they were ruined because he couldn't clean out storage so my clothes had to go in the garage and got messed up from the rain.

And really! They didn't HAVE to be thrown away! They could have been washed to get the mold off...or at least tried that! But no. my mom just went on and tossed them out. Gee thanks!

I'm going back to reading trivia on wikipedia.
